Summer Sleuthing

Stacks of Clues
Bones in the bookshelves

This is a "Summer Sleuthing" themed game intended to introduce, or re-introduce, your Friends of the Library group to patrons.

Here's how the case is solved:

Clue-seeking patrons will find evidence in the stacks in the form of a bone with an evidence tag attached.

By following the instructions on the evidence tag they will arrive, clue in hand, at the "evidence desk" where they will be presented with a gift certificate to the Friends of the Library bookstore or book sale.

The bones can be purchased from any novelty shop or, if you can't find any, we have created bone image artwork that can be printed on cardstock and cut out.

Attach an "Evidence Reward" tag to the bone and you have a clue ready to salt into the stacks. Hide them anyplace that patrons may wander. Let your prize budget determine how many clues are available to be found every day.

The "evidence desk" can be anywhere but should also be the place where you will be promoting your summer reading program — you want to tie in the "clue" theme and also pick up on the language on the evidence tags.

When a patron arrives at the desk bearing evidence he can be introduced to the summer reading program and then sent happily off to the Friends Bookstore with a "Found Evidence Reward" chit to redeem his well-earned prize.
